A few words about the Hellenic (Greek) Marbles.

Greece is extremely privileged to have an abundance of marble deposits, making it one of the most prominent marble producing countries in the world. It provides the world market with both regular and rare marble varieties, which can be scarcely found elsewhere and have greatly contributed to the advance of civilization.

Marble quarrying in Greece began in ancient times, with reports of intensive quarrying activity dating back to the 6th century B.C. in many regions of Greece, both continental and island. This continues to the present day.

A famous marble variety, the renowned "Greek White" one, gained global notoriety due to its extensive use during that period in the creation of works of art and the construction of historic, architectural and sculptural monuments. These include the Parthenon, Aphrodite of Milos, Nike of Samothrace (the winged goddess of Victory), Hermes of Praxiteles and many others.
